Join us at The Knit Lounge to make your own stranded colourwork hat in the round! Also known as the Fair Isle technique, we will tackle a simple but striking pattern from Andrea Mowry. The Flicker and Flame hat uses 2 contrasting colours in a sport weight yarn to create this lovely hat. It's the perfect introduction to Fair Isle knitting!
The class is suitable for those confident in casting on in the round, knitting and purling. We will cover chart reading, colour dominance, catching floats, decreases and darning in ends. We will also look at stranded colourwork knitted flat during the class.
What's the Pattern?
The pattern we will be making is the 'Flicker and Flame Hat' by the designer Andrea Mowry. This beanie style hat begins with a simple rib brim and then moves onto easy to follow colourwork charts. I love Andrea's patterns and find they are laid out well with clear instructions, charts and notes. The pattern is NOT included in the course cost. You will need to purchase it online or we can purchase a copy for you via the Ravelry In-store sales service. We can even print it for you! You can view the pattern here.
What do I need to bring?
You can use any yarn you like to make this pattern and I recommend a Sport / DK weight yarn (Andrea uses a self striping sport weight yarn for her version) I recommend using Hjertegarn Hjerte Fine or Lang Yarns Merino 150 for your solid main colour and Edition 3 from Schoppel-Wolle as your contrast colour. If you decide to buy your yarn with us you will get a 10% discount. Alternatively, if you already have Sport/ Light DK yarn you would like to use this is absolutely ok too!
You will also need to bring your copy of the pattern with you and 3.25mm and 3.75mm circular needles no longer that 40cm.
If you can, knit your rib section before the class. This will give you maximum time to concentrate on the colorwork section.
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided and you will also get a 10% discount on anything you buy in store on the day of your classes. Please feel free to email or phone the shop with any questions.
Important: This class is NOT suitable of absolute beginners. You need to be confident in casting on, knitting and purling and have knitted in the round before.
If you cancel your booking a refund can only be given if your spot is taken by someone else so please give as much notice as possible by emailing or popping instore. Please check carefully you are able to make the 6 dates.
