Cardiff Cashmere Cammello Classic is an exceptionally luxurious yarn made from 100% pure camel fibre, offering beautiful natural warmth, softness and character.

Cammello is a pure camel yarn using fibre from the underfleece of Bactrian camels, known for their large twin humps and long, shiny coat. This yarn is offered exclusively in its natural color and is suitable for the creation of sweaters and cardigans, as well as for accessories such as shawls and hats. It works well with all knitting stitches and has a lovely stitch definition.

With 112 metres per 25g ball, Cammello Classic is a versatile yarn that can be knit up from a fine gauge (26sts x 10cm) to a more classic DK gauge (22sts x 10cm) and similar to cashmere it is lightweight and incredibly soft. However, like other camelid yarns, pure camel yarn has low elasticity and does not spring back easily when stretched, though it offers phenomenal drape.

Why we love it! Cammello Classic has all the properties of cashmere, but is a little more substantial and crisp with less halo to it. It's incredibly warm and has a slight sheen to it which shows up stitch pattens like a dream!

What is camel yarn like?

Camel yarn is prized for its softness, warmth and lightweight feel. Cammello Classic is made from the fine undercoat of the Bactrian camel, creating a beautifully soft fibre that provides excellent insulation while remaining breathable and comfortable to wear. Camel yarn is also free from Lanolin so it is naturally hypoallergenic and suitable for anyone that has an allergy to wool.

What can I knit with Cardiff Cammello Classic?

Cardiff Cammello Classic is ideal for luxury sweaters and cardigans, shawls, scarves, hats and other accessories. Its combination of softness and stitch definition also makes it particularly lovely for textured knitting and garments designed to showcase a beautiful natural fibre.

If you're looking for something a little different from traditional wool or cashmere, Cardiff Cashmere Cammello Classic is a truly special natural fibre yarn – understated, beautifully soft and wonderfully warm.

About Cardiff Cashmere

The very best cashmere in the world comes from the highlands of Inner Mongolia in an impervious area of Central Asia where the temperature undergoes severe changes between the seasons and between day and night. To survive these conditions, Hircus goats develop very thick coats consisting of a rough outer coat and a fine and soft undercoat. This beautifully soft undercoat is what goes into Cardiff Cashmere yarn. The goats coats are combed at the beginning of the summer season and used in the textile industry. Cardiff Cashmere, through a responsible selection of suppliers, procures the best raw materials on the market.

To select the best lots, main features such as fineness (never more than 15.5 microns), length (never less than 38mm) are carefully evaluated. The mix of these characteristics allows Cardiff Cashmere to produce yarns which then have a softer handle, greater resistance to pilling and greater durability once worked.

Our Grayshott yarn shop is conveniently located for knitters visiting from Haslemere, Hindhead, Farnham, Guildford and the surrounding Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex areas. Come in to our knitting wool shop in Grayshott to see the yarn and colours in person.
