Join us at The Knit Lounge for this all day workshop to make fingerless mittens in the round! The session will take place from 10.30am to 4pm with a 30 minute break for lunch at 1pm. Yarn included!

Though it can look like wizardry, using double pointed needles (or DPNs) is not only achievable, but wonderfully satisfying and rewarding. They are fantastic for knitting even the smallest circumferences in the round, opening up a whole world of knitted accessories. Join Kathy at the Knit Lounge and learn how to use these versatile tools to make these super cute fingerless mittens with a proper thumb gusset!

You’ll learn how to use DPNs, how to knit increases for thumb shaping, and how to work a stretchy bind off. You’ll also learn how to pick up stitches from a cast off edge, an invaluable skill if you’re looking to stretch yourself with a sweater club later down the line.

By the end of the class, you will have learned all the skills needed to knit your second fingerless mitten to complete the pair - just in time for Christmas!

Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided and you are welcome to bring a packed lunch and eat in the workshop space.

Skill level: Beginner. You should already be comfortable with knits and purls, as well as casting on. You may find it easier if you have experience knitting in the round on circular needles, but this is not a requirement.

You’ll learn:

  • How to join your knitting in the round

  • How to avoid accidentally twisting your stitches

  • How to use DPNs

  • How to knit increases

  • How to pick up stitches from a cast off edge for the thumb gusset

  • How to work a long-tail cast on

  • How to work a stretchy bind off

What's included:

Your yarn is included in this workshop. You will get 1 ball of Sandnes Garn Double Sunday in shade Matcha, 2 locking stitch markers and a project notecard.

What you’ll need to bring:

  • A set of five 3.5mm DPNs

  • Darning needle for working in ends
