Join the 'Sweater Club Intermediate' 5 week knitting course here at The Knit Lounge!
If you have made a few items and feel confident with the basics of knitting, or maybe you have knit sweaters before but never in the round, this club could be for you! The course will take you gently through all the techniques needed to make your own (well fitting) raglan sweater! This sweater is top down, in the round with a raglan construction and while that sounds intimidating its a great garment to tackle.
This course will run for five sessions on Saturdays from 7pm - 9pm on the following dates (outlined below) Each session is 2 hours and there will be time between each class to continue knitting your sweater and complete your homework (Homework is not essential but to get the most out of the course we do recommend it!)
Please Note: You must already know how to cast on, knit and purl, cast off and recognise the RS (right side) and WS (wrong side) of your work to attend this class. Some pattern reading experience would be an advantage. You do not need to have knit in the round before.
Dates and class contents:
Pre-course homework - Please knit your swatch before the first session. Details of how to do this will be sent to you when you enroll.
12/09/26 - Session 1 - Casting on (2 options) and work the neck.
19/09/26 - Session 2 - Working the short row shaping and begin raglan shaping.
26/09/26 - Session 3 - Continue working the raglan yoke and short row re-cap (if needed)
3 week break to finish your yoke
17/10/26 - Session 4 - Separating the sleeves and body. Sleeve pick up demo.
24/10/26 - Session 5 - Picking up stitches for the sleeves, working the sleeves and cast off in pattern.
What's the Pattern?
The pattern we will be making is the 'No Frills Sweater' by Petiteknit. This sweater is a lovely classic shape, with a crew neck collar and is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down. This sweater can be knit to be looser or more fitted depending on your own preference and the length can be adjusted to be cropped or long! Petiteknit patterns are enormously popular and they are laid out well with clear instructions. A copy of the printed pattern is included in the course cost. You can view the pattern here.
What do I need to bring?
This sweater presents a great opportunity to learn to knit with 2 stands. The pattern recommends a fingering/ 4ply weight yarn held together with a mohair for a softer, drapier look. (PetiteKnit uses a 100% merino fingering yarn held with a silk mohair for her version) We recommend Knitting For Olive Merino held with Knitting For Olive Soft Silk Mohair or Rowan Kid Silk Haze. Alternatively if you don't want to knit with 2 strands held together, we recommend a DK such as Rowan Felted Tweed or for a more substantial sweater Sandnes Garn Double Sunday. If you decide to buy your supplies with us you will get a 10% discount. Alternatively, if you already have suitable yarn you would like to use, this is absolutely ok too!
You will also need to bring 3.5mm 40cm circular needles and 4mm 40cm -100cm circular needles. Please note that depending on your gauge you may need different needle sizes than those specified in the pattern. Gauge and needle size will be discussed at length in session one.
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided and you will also get a 10% discount on any yarn you buy in store on the evening of your classes. Please feel free to email or phone the shop with any questions.
Important: If you cancel your booking a refund can only be given if your spot is taken by someone else so please give as much notice as possible by emailing or popping instore. Please check carefully you are able to make the 5 dates.
